DAILY REPORT OF THRACING ON MIC/ DAY 1

Vibrant discussions among fervent delegates led to insightful conversations at the

commencement of Thracing’s MIC in Komotini on Thursday, December 7, 2023. The fervent

arguments were the main point of attention during the opening act, setting the standard for

the rest of the conference. These deliberations stand as a central highlight, signifying a fitting

initiation to the proceedings.

Firstly, in the United Nations General Assembly Committee, member states highlighted the

urgency of the Ethiopian matter in the Horn of Africa, focusing on its geopolitical aspect and

the need for a collaborative solution. Specifically, the committee focused on the form of a

collaborative plan, the importance of combating terrorism, and mainly the de-escalation of

the conflict in Ethiopia. Additionally, the unprecedented crises reshaped the balance of the

committee by bringing the actions of the Russian Federation to the forefront. Finally, the

active construction of a working paper was set as the goal of the committee for the days

afterward.

In the NATO committee the debate was fierce. The day started with the main topic of the

committee “Revisiting NATO’s Security Strategy in the Western Balkans”. Many delegates

presented a public statement about the main topic and it was evident that they came

prepared in order to discuss the events taking place in the Western Balkans. Furthermore a

motion brings to the surface the topic of Hybrid Attacks on the Western Balkans. The need of

NATO’s and EU’s Cooperation on the matter of strengthening regional security in the

western Balkans was a valuable motion . The most heated debate was referring to the

possible reinforcement of the military troops that exist in the western Balkans in order to

secure stability and security in those regions. Then when everything seemed to stabilize a

crisis appeared: “Cyber attack in NATO’s main servers in Brussels”. To illustrate this, the

location of many secret military bases of NATO were leaked thus endangering the personnel

and confidential information that those bases contained.

Today the foundation was set for a fruitful conference between the ministers of the EU. The

Council of the European Union has covered a wide range of topics, all complementing the

establishment of a digital security framework all around the Union. From the development of

e-governance tools, to the introduction of AI in private and public domains, digitalization has

created a series of security dilemmas, now addressed at the collective European level. All of

the ministers stressed the need for close cooperation between member states in order to

promote digital norms and create a European institutional framework. At the end, the Council

faced a complex crisis, closely related to cybercrime, all highlighting the extent and severity

of cyber threats in the EU.

CoE discussed a variety of topics related to the use of AI in different aspects of our lives.

Specifically, delegates from Poland, Greece and Turkey referred to the use of AI as a means

of eliminating hate speech on social media and any form of discrimination on the electronic

platform. Therefore, one of the main issues was the establishment of AI in the school

environment as a valuable learning tool, a position that was particularly strongly supported

by the UK. Another positive element was the valuable assistance it can offer to people with

special needs. On the other hand, the conference also focused on the negative impact of AI

on the labor sector, as the more it develops, the job opportunities for young people are

limited. In conclusion, today's meeting proved to be a constructive process with many more

issues to analyze and a variety of solutions to be presented.

At the end of the day, the majority of committees finished their responsibilities-tasks so the

boards decided to join in the game of Thracing MIC, which concluded with funny notes,

candies and a pleasant atmosphere.

On the whole, today’s caucus was the first step to understand what a Thracing on MIC

conference looks like. “Fierce” is the most suitable adjective to characterize this day. Topics,

agenda, crisis and updates created a new whole experience.

After the action, the participants were ready to chill and enjoy their evening. They had the

chance to create unique memories in HXODROMIO MUSIC HALL.

It’s an indisputable fact that the delegates are not satisfied with mediocrity and they chase

perfection.
