In Komotini’s School of Law, the tension remained at a very high level as the second day
of the Thracing On MIC took place. More crises, more incidents and of course more debates
were in the menu for very spiced discussions and arguments.
The United Nations General Assembly didn't fail to deliver once again. The member
states are debating about cyber security, the displacement crisis and the water and food supply
of the horn of Africa. The regional powers have made clear that they will not accept any external
interference other than military, financial and humanitarian aid. The cooperation of the delegates
is an astonishing example of the values that the UNGA promotes, such as equality,
multilateralism and respect.
Today it was evident throughout the heated debate that everyone was eager to jump into
action by finding viable solutions and propositions to many crises that occurred. The committee
started debating upon the matter of helping Western Balkans countries to become members of
the NATO alliance. Many delegations suggested the creation of common military and exercise
programs between these countries and NATO. The topic of China's and Russia’s influence on
the Western Balkans emphasized the need of energy and natural resources indépendance in
those countries. Then a major crisis: “the plethora of disputes between Serbia and Kosovo
result in violent and dangerous protests’’.The debate of this crisis did not fall short of
expectations as the majority of delegates condemned those in charge of the violent protests and
demanded that security and stability in those regions be restored.
The Council of Europe analyzed the remaining AI-related issues. More specifically,
representatives from both European and Balkan countries focused on the urgent need for
transparency and fairness in the field of information and politics, expressing their views on the
role that AI can play in eliminating injustice in the electoral process and misinformation of the
public. In this context, the Council referred extensively to the issue of public health, stating that
AI could be a valuable tool in the fight against unethical practices in order to ensure citizens'
privacy. Subsequently, after the analysis of all major issues, the delegates elected Greece as
the representative speaker to present a report identifying exactly the role of AI in all aspects of
everyday life.
Concerning the actions that took place in CoEU, it’s true that all the delegates focused on the
main topic of today’s crisis. An unexpected drone put under pressure the variety of delegations
and made them understand the importance of technical support, of protection of data and of
global cooperation. The EU decided that collaboration and the practical help of experts are the
most valuable solutions. The ambassadors didn’t rush to conclude on solving ideas but they
used their calmness and energy to elaborate and communicate their thoughts.
All in all, discussions kept escalating as delegates are reaching closer to the release of
their resolution papers. Proposals are starting to become more and more competitive, as
democratic procedures will be the deciding factor of the adoption of the resolutions.
