The efforts of the delegates are finally rewarded as the final day of the Thracing on MIC Conference comes to an end. Hard work pays off, and everyone working on the realization of the conference should feel rewarded, as the success of Thracing on MIC continues. The aim of the conference was met, while every participant honed their soft skills in a warm and friendly environment provided by Thracing on MIC.
The resolution voting process is vital for the Committee of the UNGA, and the crisis of Ethiopia posed no exception. Draft resolutions were produced by the promising cooperation of the delegates and their joint effort to propose solutions the complex issues of the horn of Africa. Sharp thinking, convincing speeches and well rounded comprehension of the conditions that shape the international system are skills required for an exceptional resolution. In the end, the UNGA managed to pass a resolution, a remarkable achievement for the committee, given the large number of delegations with contradicting interests.
The debate on the third day of the conference did not fall short of expectations. Many delegations presented a plethora of solutions in order to ensure stability and security in the Western Balkans countries and prevent the breakout of violent protests and conflicts. Then a crisis occurred: “a Serbian group which was supported by military officers attacked Saravejo’’. This action resulted in halting the internet connection and the closing of all capital’s highways. The debate on this crisis was on fire as the majority of the delegates condemned this attack and proposed the enhancement of defensive and offensive military troops in Bosnia and Herzegovina. As the day came to an end,Kosovo's prime minister highlighted the demand for Kosovo's independence which caused a number of positive and negative reactions. Concluding, the last day of the conference showed that these 3 days of debate were absolutely phenomenal.
The ministers of the EU concluded their work in strengthening the digital security framework of the Union. Having set an agenda heavily focused on the creation of a common European cyber policy, the Co EU not only managed to address the security issues arising from the introduction of cutting edge digital technologies in everyday life, but also to build the foundation of promoting digital norms and digital ethics in an ever changing European landscape. At the same time, the EU ministers faced a particularly tough crisis, with the Republic of India compromising the European cybersecurity structure. The issue heavily polarized the Council, but the Committee managed to pull through, issuing a unified public statement.
On the last day of the conference, the Council of Europe achieved its goal. In particular, Greece as the sponsoring presenter and other European countries as signatories raised their motions for amendments, rewording, additions and cancellations concerning specific draft statements for AI. After a meeting of delegates, the necessary changes concerning fundamental rights, democracy and ethics were made and certain provisions of the draft resolution were amended. Following the procedure, the Greek Minister examined the new document and approved the changes, characterizing them as friendly. Therefore, by certifying the document, the Council of Europe has shown that it is capable of responding to all the burning issues by filling any gap, which is confirmed by the clear definition that AI must have in our lives and especially in the field of human rights.
Emotions. That’s the most important thing that was painted in the delegates’ faces. Everyone involved in Thracing on MIC should be more than pleased with the actual result.
Last but not least, it’s true that the last social event where the delegates had one last chance to get to know each other and have fun was in OMNIA NIGHTCLUB!
