Recent escalations in the southern-Ukraine front, along with the new bombing strategy of the Russians, have resurfaced refugee problems in the EU, as a new wave is imminent in the periphery of the region in the already refugee-hosting countries: Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary. However, unlike spring 2022, this time it’s different; winter is here and the rampant inflation has made governments, especially those of the right political spectrum, look towards helping their own people instead of allocating resources to alleviate the refugee issue. Observers from both the UNHRC and the Red Cross Committees are warning that, unless measures are taken to facilitate the legal passing of refugees, people will turn to illegal means, with whatever that entails. The EU has yet to make an official statement. The Council of the European Union has been called upon to find a common path.
