On December 8, at 19:30 Russian President Vladimir Putin contacted the EU and Ukrainian presidents to announce to them his intentions to resolve the “Special Operation” in Ukraine, however submitting some requests to proceed with a definitive ceasefire. Among the demands is the recognition of the incorporated territories taken over by the Russian military during the war.

At the same time, Putin asked the European Union that Russia be the exclusive supplier of oil and gas for at least 25 years and that every five years the amount of sales should increase by 2%, if the terms of the treaty are not violated, a deal that is expected to improve Russian profits by at least 50%. Moreover, the provisions call for sanctions and restrictions to any and all Russian interests be lifted. Finally, Russia demands that Ukraine not become a member state of the EU and NATO after the ceasefire.
Delegations from Ukraine and Russia, along with representatives from the EU have been working all night to further negotiate the terms of the proposed treaty in order to achieve a better deal for them. The Council of the EU is also in session and its reaction to the proposed treaty is being awaited by the international community.
