CoEU Crisis Update 9- "BREAKING NEWS: 'Explosive' Meeting"

At 12:37 p.m. December 10, a bomb exploded at the premises of the location where the negotiations for peace in Ukraine were to take place. The Ukrainian government representative Vlodymyr Groisman not long after reports of the incident surfaced, stated that they were not behind the explosion and it was probably an accident. On the other camp though, Maria Zakharova, said in the immediate interview that the government of Russia does not believe these statements as true and considers the explosion “a pre-planned vicious attack of the cowardly Ukrainians to eliminate the Russian officials, in retaliation for not giving in to their simple requests”. She added that President Putin postponed indefinitely the meeting of the diplomats before they arrived at the location and to cut any discussion or compromise regarding the end of the war, unless a formal apology is issued or compelling evidence it was an accident is provided. He also demanded that after the Ukrainian Government complies, the in-person negotiation site for future discussions be moved to Brest, Belarus, where the delegates will actually be safe. Until that happens, though, he declared that Russians must fight harder to retribute these preposterous attempts for humiliation, thus “inviting” more Russian citizens to the battlefield, signaling the imminent launch of a new offensive in the next few days. Taking this into account, Ukraine pleaded for Europe’s help to intervene in an effort to salvage the meeting, as they believe that a solution has never been closer the last 3 months. The EU is trying to get in touch with the Russian representatives, but according to Putin’s order any negotiation or even communication is off the table for the time being, unless his simple requests are fulfilled.
