A series of mysterious explosions has been taking place in Transnistria during the span of 3 days in the beginning of December 2022 (6-8), with the first explosion happening on the 6th at 13:42, the second on the 7th at 16:03 and the third and final one on the 8th at 11:45. Amongst the targets were the Ministry of State Security, the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. No lives were lost, but the buildings sustained great damage and a few pedestrians were injured nonetheless.
The Ministry of Defense of Transnistria has already issued the following statement: “No information has been confirmed, but our forces are working tirelessly in order to uncover who is behind these attacks. An attack such as this one, cannot and will not be unanswered for”
The President of Transnistria has publicly claimed that Ukraine is to blame, while the President of Moldova abstained from further comments other than that the attacks are meant to destabilize the region and cause further conflict. On the other hand, Volodomyr Zelenski, Ukraine’s President, denies all accusations from the separatists in Transnistria, believing that it is a Russian plot to cause further suspicion and wreak havoc. More and more citizens in the area of Transnistria are trying to evacuate, fearing that war will soon engulf the area and then they will be trapped in the conflict.
Furthermore, in the area of Tiraspol in Transnistria are the headquarters of the OGRF (Operational Group of Russian Forces). The OGRF numbers around 1,500 soldiers of the Russian military force and guards 22,000 tons of ammunition and military equipment. Its peacekeeping role is disputed and Ukraine fears their possible involvement in the war, threatening its -still intact- south-east borderline
On a parallel note, the team leader of the International Atomic Energy Agency Alejandro Gomez is officially missing. The rest of the team has successfully reported to the UN’s Secretary General and is ready to go on with their mission. Kremlin keeps radio silence about the attack and alleged abduction;
